If anyone who is experimenting with pre-formed stems needs some reject stems for practice, I have a bunch I can give away for free. There is also well over 200 styles of good quality pre-formed stems. Most are Giudici (the better of the modern pre-forms).
Some one said to me today: "Best Thing to happen to pipe makers is Steve Norse!"
I would like to revise: "Best Thing to happen since the discovery of briar for pipe makers is Steve Norse."

I asked Steve for 30mm Navy Blue cumberland and he didn't have any.

Weird. You must've asked right after I bought out his inventory of 30mm Navy Blue Cumberland. I think I'm gonna make a bunch of mini potato canons with them!

I have seen/felt this on a number of inexpensive pipes and in fact I'm holding one right now. I reckon it's just the requirement to finish fast and move on to the next pipe. In thinking about it it's just doing things the correct way and marking the maker as good. /better/then best.
