Years a pipe smoker: 0, I've smoked one that I have made a few times.
How you got into pipe making: My brother in law is a pipe smoker. They don't come up very often because they cant afford it, so we don't get to see each other or talk that much. We really don't have all that much in common, but I figured since I am pretty mechanically inclined I'd make him a pipe. Maybe it would give us more to talk about. I've enjoyed everyone I've built, and its easier to get into than gunsmithing, no federal licensing. I work construction at present so the winter layoff was a little more enjoyable with something to do.
Other interesting facts: I was in the Army for 8 years. I am a trained gunsmith.
