Real Name: Dennis Perez

Age: 66

Location: Seffner, FL—East of Tampa

Years a pipe smoker: This time about a year, I smoked for several years while in my 20’s. I’ve been smoking cigars for about 10 years.

How I got interested in pipe making: I’ve been a woodworker for 40+ years. The last 8+ years I’ve been turning wood exclusively. My son recently started smoking a pipe and it rekindled my interest. I have a shop full of woodworking tools and love working with wood. I recently purchased some drill bits and a book from PIMO, have been watching YouTube videos, so I’m ready to get started.

Other interesting facts: I’ve been married to the same wonderful woman for 44 years. We have two children and 5 grandchildren. I’ve been retired for about a year and loving it. I’m not sure if I would be interested in making pipes as a business, but I would like to be able to make some quality pipes for my son and myself. Is there anyone in the Central Florida area that would be interested in giving lessons or letting me watch the process of making a pipe? I learn better watching than I do by reading a book.

Welcome to the forum! I know there are two pipe makers in Florida. Most pipe makers are happy to give you a shop tour at least.

I'll agree to that. To any doubters out there, look at my pipes from two years ago and compare them to my recent work.
