Rad has apparently retired

Post by LatakiaLover »

Some guy on another forum says he was told, in writing, by Rad himself:

http://pipesmagazine.com/forums/topic/i ... as-retired

Well... that fuckin' sucks. :(

This is really very sad. He was one of the working class pipemaker that truly loved what he did. His value to price ratio was untouched by all but a few pipemaker. Unfortunately I will probably never have a chance to meet him. I have used his work ethic as a blueprint and proof that making a living carving classic and neo-classic pipes is indeed possible. If you are watching the forum know that you are at the top of my list of respected pipemaker in the United States.

This is sad news, but I'm happy Rad is taking care of himself rather than try and make pipes for everyone else. His example has been a huge influence in my own brief career as a carver.

We'll miss your warm and cuddly persona you old fart.
I'm retiring too, from my "real" job, so that I can make pipes instead of drowning worms.
Just because you're retarded doesn't mean you can't come in here and keep George in line.
Now you can tell us all of your trade secrets.
Good luck!!

RAD, you busted your ass to make a significant contribution to this community. I hope that you know that you did.

I'll miss seeing new work from you.

Happy retirement!

Rad, I wish you nothing but the best in your new job as Abercrombie and Fitch underwear model. It is the calling of a lifetime, and certainly worth walking away from the crappy job of Americas Preeminent Archetypal Pipemaker.
Just kidding Boss.
Whatever you say goes.
Anybody doesn't like it, I will personally set them straight.
You have helped me out more than you know, with advice I could not get anywhere else. Stuff like "Ryan, that is fucking ugly" was actually very helpful. But your example has been more helpful than any advice I ever received. You are a good man Charlie Brown.
Of course you know prices for your work will now triple over what you asked new.

I knew you had retired from watching the fish in a nearby lake. There was a collective shudder when they realized you had more time to spend on the water :).
Enjoy terrorizing the fish.

Guys,
I seriously doubt Rad retired. I think he's just operating under his old pseudonym: Mike Messer. Keep us updated on the progress, Rad!

Hmm, you may be onto something here. Although triple is a very conservative estimate. More like 45-elled.
