My name is Thomas Cobb from Atlanta, GA. I've just turned 44 and am looking to stoke my artistic fires again. I have some basic wood turning skills (bowls, vases etc. ) that are a little rusty. I've enjoyed pipes off and on for 17 years. I'd love to be able to create some functional art of my own. Looking for where to start before diving in.

Welcome to the forum! I think you'll find lots of good information here on the board. Most people will start off with a pipe kit as this can be finished by hand with rasps, files, and sandpaper. Even though you have a lathe, this isn't a bad way to start.
Looking forward to seeing what you will make for your first pipe! And if you get a chance, feel free to post some of the pictures of your vases and bowls in the "Other things we make" section of the forum.
