You need to sand your tobacco chambers before applying bowl coating. The oils from your fingers, buffing compounds, and wax can prevent the coating from bonding to the briar especially near the rim where you tend to get the bulk of those things. It's especially true if you're using the waterglass or milk paint recipes.

The reverse taper shank on the first one doesn't really go well with the cylindrical bowl of the poker/cherrywood shape here because it looks too organic for the more geometric shaped bowl.

The second pipe looks pretty good. Just need to dial in your finish.

I do not mind posting in one thread for a carver's work. It actually allows us to see the progress. You can always click on the far right link for the most recent post in the category listing.

Effe, I would suggest to size the pictures at about 640 width so we can see the entire picture without zooming out.
