Trying out contrast stain using different media?

Post by E.L.Cooley »

Please ignore the poorly shaped stummel. This is from my box of failed attempts. I am not sure if I am headed the right direction or not. But, this was an attempt at contrast with different media. Med brown under yellow? Lots of reading both here and out on the interwebs. I'm still corn fused. Any advise would be great.Image did I post the pic correctly? I'm a fool.

Medium brown with yellow after sanding or buffing works well.

Pic is big. try 800 x 600 for future ones.

That looks good.

I got away from top staining, generally, and I stain real dark and then sand back and go to a sealer coat that is just gently amber.

Hi Sas thanks for that input. If you use a top sealer coat instead. Does that hold you to one finish color or do you tint the seal coat too?

Given 1 dark stain and 1 light sealing layer, I could probably generate 10 different finishes.
