A newbie
Hi guys! Well I'm glad im here finally and able to say stuff. By name im Jānis Markuss and i've been making pipes for 1 year now. I'm 23 years old and I live and make pipes in Latvia (in europe)
When ever i feel the need for an advice i seek help in this forum on similar problems. I have always loved wood, but pipecarving came to me as challange and i feel delighted to be able to join the family and to listen and share with pros and rookie alike.
Thank for welcoming me!

Since he's been world famous for many years and Latvia is a small country, I must ask.
Have you met him?
Have you met him?

My apologies, Janka. Chalk that one up to 1) a typical American's ignorance of eastern Europe; and 2) my excitement that you might have met the guy conflating countries which start with the letter "L" in my mind.Janka wrote:The guy is from Lithuania not Latvia Is he a pipemaker or just a weightlifter?
Excitement because he's truly something of a hero of mine. Many years ago I was involved with Olympic weight lifting, and still find strength sports fascinating. Big Z (as he's known) is arguably the most powerful human being to have ever walked the Earth, PLUS he's a soft-spoken, quietly confident guy who seems like he'd be fun to know.
Pipedreamer: Not a power lifter. A strongman competitor. They are very different. Strongman is far more dynamic and impressive (and dangerous).

You are right!!! My apologies. You do know these things. I was the fl. Firefighter champion, power lifting, way back. I don't think I'm dangerous, however I am driven!!!

Outstanding. Much respect. (I was an AAU Region 8 PL judge for a while (also way back) in addition to my primary love of coaching Olympic guys.)pipedreamer wrote:I was the fl. Firefighter champion, power lifting, way back.:
What was your weight class and winning total?
