Shipping, stem in or out?

Do you ship your pipes assembled or separated? I am concerned with climate and atmosphere differences. I've received pipes with stems out and they dont fit flush when I assemble them, but the maker swears it was flush when it left them.

Thoughts?

In, and pack the pipe for the apocalypse. I've had boxes show up just fuckin mangled. Like, stepped on, blown out, crushed.... and the pipe was fine. Bubble wrap and foam pellets.

Always in, you are only asking for trouble otherwise. As Todd says, pack it well.
