1st post

Hello guys and gals.I've been a member not quite a year. I’ve learned so much on here from you.
My head is full of techniques and processes, but when I start shaping a pipe it’s like trying to remember dreams.I suppose it will all come. Right? I’m looking for critique, I can take criticism.My friends and family give me the ego strokes on the pipes I’ve made.

my first thought is that the rounding over of the stem where it meets the shank indicates that you're making your stem and pipe separately...you should keep the stem on the pipe from the moment you start sanding to keep the joint flush.

A very credible first pipe.
In addition to working the shank and stem as a unit, a slight taper on the shank would also look better. You did a good job on getting the bowl cylindrical, but next time, try a slightly concave at the middle shape, which to my eye is more elegant. Also try to get the cylindrical part of the saddle more sharply cylindrical and the first part of the transition to the flat of the stem a bit more sharp.

Thank you, this is very helpful.I see the problems your talking about. Some of the things that you mentioned,I don’t think I’ve ever noticed while looking at pipes for reference. So I went to some websites and look at some higher end and I see what your talking about. It does look more elegant.

Nice looking poker! I agree with what's said above, and you can correct it on the next pipe with a simple workflow adjustment.
