2018 GKCPC contest pipe
I note that the GKCPC has announced the theme shape for this year's carving contest: The Prince. Love that shape.

UFOs must be real. There's no other explanation for cats.

In my small collection of artisan pipes, I have princes from Scottie, Sasquatch, Jason Thompson, and Joe Hinkle.
I am somewhat hesitant about attempting to make something of this caliber, but at least I have some decent examples.

Step out there and go for it Doc. "Nothing ventured, nothing gained". It won't be until September so you have plenty of time.
While you're at it, come to KC for the show. Obviously, it's nothing like Chicago but it's fun and the people are great, the venue is great and the KC barbeque is outstanding!
But, best of all, you would get to meet our curmudgeon in residence, Lonesome George (former member of "The Prints"). I heard they threw him out because he was just too pretty.

Re: 2018 GKCPC contest pipe
This should be a really interesting contest, particularly because the prototypical Prince pipe is a very specific shape.
It'll take some real thought into how to ride the line between traditional enough to satisfy the theme but unique enough to stand out from the pack. Reminds me a bit of the figure skating on TV at the moment. Do you go traditional and win with impeccable attention to detail, or do you go for bold and risk landing your face.
Different from this past year's aesthetic free-for-all but no less compelling. Well...who am I kidding. Maybe Nate King will try and make a Prince out of an actual Prince.

Where can I find more information on the 2018 contest? Googling around I seem to just find info for last year.

Ask this board. I'm a contest judge, and Scottie is the KC club's Internet Voice. If one of us doesn't know the answer, we'll find out for you.

You just box up your entry pipe and mail it to Quinton Wells before the contest in September. There's a $20 entry fee to cover handling and return postage. The address will be published here and on the GKCPC web site.
