Real name: Peter

Age: 40

Location: Eastern Pennsylvania

Years a pipe smoker: Four or five

How you got into pipe making: I don't make pipes. I like to fix old ones. I see a lot of similarities between making pipes, fixing them and restoration. Honestly, I'm tired of screwing up and destroying old pipes. I have tons of them that need work and I'd like to hone my skills. I'm beginning to notice finer details that need attention like out of square shank to stem connections that are driving me mad. I am a hobbyist but my ocd requires that I find better ways to do things. I see there is a lot of knowledge and experience on here. I have oodles of questions.

Other interesting facts: Colonies of ants fascinate me and I very much enjoy fly fishing.

Hello to all you briar, ebonite and acrylic carvers and manipulators.

Welcome Peter
You have picked a hard row to hoe.I find repair to require skills well beyond those which I have acquired since 2015 as a pipe maker
I would suggest that you pay very close attention to George Dibos’ videos and posts. His videos are great.
George is the best pipe repair guy of whom I am aware.
He is on this forum as Latakia Lover.

Like to fix old pipes, you say? Excellent!

As Doc said, it's not for the faint-hearted.

Here is the home page (so to speak) for the videos he referred to:

Thank you kindly. I've been going through the forums here and lots of questions have been answered for me already. More questions keep arising. I am well versed in the High Grade Pipe Repair youtube channel. Truly amazing stuff. I look forward to getting the chance to know you folks on here.
