A couple of firsts in this one for me, first Bulldog and first diamond taper stem, it's also a military mount (not my first time).

Here’s my first PITH entry... I have a little bit of light scratch work to buff out but it’s complete for the most part... hoping the recipient likes it as much as I do! Am I the only pipe maker that wants to keep every pipe they make...? I have a hard time letting them go!

Fellas, my PITH pipe is nearing completion, but I need a few more days to get it finished. It’s shaped, the stem is profiled, everything is glued up and ready for finish work. Crazy work schedule this week, so no time in the shop.

Thanks to Premal for setting this up and giving us all a chance to stretch our legs! I did play it a little safe with the shape, but I used this an opportunity to try some new tools and techniques - which hopefully will make it into the video I shot of this build.

OK, I decided to enter at the last minute.

Tossed this together this morning from some odd pieces-parts I had lying around.

Is it a "bulldog"? Depends on how hard you squint and how many beers you've had, but I say yes, and my cat agrees.

I’m going to have to pull out of the pith this year. I’m a brand new pipe maker and I just didn’t execute the pipe I had planned very well. I’m going to keep working to get better and comeback next year. There are some really beautiful pipes this year and I will definitely be using them for inspiration.

Folks, due to circumstances and bone laziness, I may need another day or so to finish. I will guarantee a pipe to my recipient but may be a day to two late.
I do have a back up that is sort of Rhodesian-ish, so if the deadline is hard, that one goes.

The only arguable error is the floor of the bowl probably being too thin. .25" is the minimum regardless of pipe size (it's a briar thing).

Also, with this sort of design, tilting the chamber radically to avoid the problem only trades it for a different one: Charring of the chamber wall on the shank side above the drafthole.

In short, if you make another of these try adding a little beef through the heel.

Before anyone gets riled up: I know Bo Nordh invented the shape and etc. I also know what comes across my bench.

PS --- If you've measured and it's .25"+, and the chamber isn't whacky angled, then never mind. The pipe will only give a short smoke, but that's OK. Form must follow function, not the other way around.

Hello friends! A few makers are finishing up their pipes and I’m waiting to hear from a couple. We are going to hold the drawing Sunday afternoon at about 5pm eastern USA time. I will do a live ig post on @chhedapipes for the drawing. I will update the list with those that are completed and near completion. Those that have dropped out or I have not heard from will be removed from the list. Thank you for participating in this year’s pith!

Agree with George. That is a tough pipe to make with adequate floor thickness. Have tried and failed several times. Seems like the Giegers have some sort of trick with their Bodog pipes, named after Nordh of course. Can’t remember what they do but I think it has to do with a cone shaped chamber and possibly an angle to the chamber as well.

Thanks for putting the PITH on again this year Premal! This's the first year i've been able to participate, and have learned a LOT by just watching this thread. Next year, perhaps we'll pull out the stops and be a bit more "adventurous".

I think a bulldog was just about the limit of my adventurousness, thank you very much. The diamond shank was a challenge, and had it not been acceptable to forego the accent ring for us non lathe types, I would have been screwed.
