Sir Saartan

Post by Sir_Saartan »

Real name: Marc-Anton Wilhelm
Age:36
Location:Germany
Years a pipe smoker: 6
How you got into pipe making: I saw a hobby block on the internet...
Other interesting facts:
Several of the guys here have already helped me with me pipe making
project, because we're members of the pipe smokers dens forum.

This is a hobby project for me, with no intention of making pipes to sell.
That being said, I am very enthusiastic about this and would love to be able
to make decent pipes.

With the help of chris askswith, I've already cast some blanks for a stem
project. I've still got to learn shaping a good stem, but the casting part
worked quite well.

I'm using a small wood lathe and a small belt sander as my main
power tools. the rest is files and sandpaper. I do own a bosch
drill press, which I rarely use because of the lathe.

I am really excited to be a member of this forum.
Thank you for having me.

I am not all that familiar with how you guys handle things here, so I'll be glad
if you point out to me if I do things that
a) I shouldn't do
b) I can do, but should do them differently

Also: while I consider my english pretty decent, I'm not a native speaker.
I'm from germany, and therefore I may sometimes post things that seem to rub someone
the wrong way. If this happens: My sincere apologies in advance.

I'm glad for all the information I have already recieved, both here as well as elsewhere
(a lot of the other information still coming from members who are present in this forum as well).

I'm planning on reading through all the material here that I have not yet read.

I was planning on asking my questions in those already existing threads, even if they are more than
a decade old. My idea was that way, nobody was going to write down what had already been said,
saving you guys time. Plus we wouldn't end up with several threads with the same information.
I'm not sure if that's the way things are done around here, so I'll be happy to do it your way once
I know what's expected from me.

After all, many of you earn your livelyhood with making pipes. I don't. It's an exciting hobby,
but that's as far as it goes for me.

Always remember: if I post something that bothers someone: I am trying my best to be
polite. I can't think of a reasons why I would
a) piss someone off
b) try to be smarter than you are.I'm not.

I usually ask tons of - sometimes very detailed - questions. I'll be happy for everyone who
is kind enough to spend his time answering them. I'm here to learn, and if it sounds like
I'm trying to teach: I accidently chose the wrong words. be cerain of that.
