I've made 1 totally by hand except for the premade stem.
This is my first one on the lathe. I plan on rusticating.
Going to start a stem tomorrow.
Can I get some critiques ? Sorry about the links, haven't figured out pic posting yet.

First one
Re: First one
1 3/4" tall. 3/4" chamber. Countersunk for 1/4" delrin diameter is .50, forgot to check overall length.
My intended design is a lightweight billiard.

Re: First one
The lines are intended to be a stopping point for rustication.
Re: First one
Thats a very good job for a first billiard. Well done!
I feel like the upper part of the bowl walls could be tapered a tad more and have a clearer belly. But it is still pretty close as it is.
The taper in the shank seems to be uneven, also by very little but it hard to tell from a picture.
Looking forward to seeing the finished pipe.

Re: First one
Thank you! I wanted the bowl to be just a bit thicker so I could do what you suggested, but I had my combo set to the wrong angle and just had to go with it to avoid too thin a wall.
On the next one I will make very sure to not make that mistake again.
I will post progress soon, although I am taking my time and working on it as I can - dang day job.

Re: First one
When I'm shaping the bowl,I turn a cylinder with the cross slide, than switch to using a flat 1 inch scraper hand tool. it's much easier to finesse the proper shape, rather than have to fiddle with the compound.....I just put a piece of quarter inch steel rod in the lantern post to use as a tool rest.MRM wrote:Thank you! Re: First one
That is a great idea. I will have to dig my scraper out and try that.
Thanks for the suggestion.

Re: First one
I some fine detail work left to do, a lil more sanding to remove a few scratches I missed and even up the shellac.
I'm not sure that I like the stem length.
Critiques please!
