Real name: Joel Eagles
Age: twenty something
Location: Central Illinois
Years a pipe smoker: 5 months
How you got into pipe making: my father smokes a pipe, and I started smoking with him. We usually talk about the histories of the puppies and tobaccos, and I started playing around in my woodshop.
Other interesting facts: I own a small woodworking company in central Illinois at sicklewoodshop.com I hope to add some artisan pipes to my catalog in a few months!

It's funny how many pipe makers DON'T have a wood shop, or any actual shop skills that don't pertain to pipes. It's a big advantage.

Welcome to the forum.
It is interesting that many of us came to pipe making without being wood workers.
My personal experience is that I never touched a lathe until I had to cut tenons, nor have I done any wood finishing other than slopping on some paint.
As Sas says, that may be an advantage, since almost everything we learn here comes from pipe makers (or one crotchety old pipe repair guy).

Welcome, Joel.
I have done a lot of woodworking in the past, but like these guys, only really got into using tools for this hobby.
I'm sure that will be very advantageous, as Sas mentioned.
Glad to have you on board.
