...to start carving pipes and become a pipe maker.
Had too many pipes in my hands : High grades - and firewood.
Anyway, let me know when you think that I can be of any help.

@ Kurt, do you have German ancestors? Your name sounds German.
@Brian, how did you get to "ach du liebe"? - that´s German also.

I do, indeed, Rolf. My ancestors arrived here in the late 1800s. My great-grandmother taught me a little German, and I still retain some of it to this day. Mostly colorful metaphors and phrases of exclamation though.

I have relatives living in Colorado from grandma´s and mother´s side with last name "Schultz", and in Clinten Corners,N.Y. family name "Staats". Them also emigrated in the late 1800´s and I lost the contact to them while I was a sailor. Do even not have any addresses.

Rolf,
My mother is German. Married my father when he was a young American GI stationed in Germany in 1959. Growing up I learned some German by just listening to my mother carry on conversations with her German friends. One of her frequently used exclamations was 'ach du liebe'. I have always loved that phrase, so that is the history behind my screen name.

Exactly! Phrases like "Fahr zur Hölle" and "Hurensohn" get used quite a bit in the workshop.

LOL, if you added one word and said "Ach du liebe Zeit" it would say : "Dear Me!" - "Good gracious!" - "Oh my God!"
BTW next week I will be in the workshop of "Design Berlin" and in the near future I will meet newbie pipe maker Oliver Camphausen. Perhaps we get it arranged that I show some pipes from him on my tables in L.A. and Chicago.
