Full-Bent Giant

Post by Heinz_D »

I want to show you my last pipe, which I've finished today. It's a Full-Bent Giant and here are some pics:

Compared with a "normal sized" Vauen (pipe of the year 2003):

And this was the example:

Unfortuanately the briar shows some spots and flaws! But symetry and functions are good. The air flow was a little bit tricky, because this pipe has a 9 mm filter chamber. But I managed it, so that the draw even with filter is very good.

The pics aren't very good, but we'd stormy weather today and I couldn't take pics by natural light...

The dimensions:

Length over all (measured at the half of the bowl): 140 mm
Length of the stem: 70 mm
Hight overall: 80 mm
Hight of the bowl: 68 mm
Width at the boarder: 37 mm
Width at the middle of the bowl: 54 mm
Airway in the shank: 4 mm
Airway in the stem: 3 mm
Bit: inside v-formed 15 mm long, 1.5 mm inner hight, 4.0 mm outside
Stem: Acrylic with 9 mm filter chamber
Finish: Naturally, carnaubawax

Any comments?

Best regards,

Heinz

Heinz,
As always, beautiful work. The bend in your stem has the perfect radius to match the flow of the pipe. Also, it seems that shape would fit perfectly in my hand, almost like a nice wine glass or maybe a brandy snifter something. Great work.

Just want to give you an update... Due to the flaws of that pipe I asked Rainer Barbi, what I can do. He said, I can send him the pipe and he'll try to sandblast ist...

The result:

I'm not overly fond of sandblasts and rustication, but I must admit it did wonders for that pipe. Congrats on that "gigantisch" pipe, Heinz.

Frank.

Nice!! The blast looks great! Man, it must be cool to be able to work with the likes of Barbi. Of course we've got a few high fliers here too, so i shouldn't complain. Larry Roush lives just a few hours away from me. But I've yet to be able to convince him to let me come see his shop. Tonni Neilsen too.
