I just got a bunch of spanish cedar. So I am looking at it, and a thought came to mind. Can you make a pipe that will last out of this. I know I can use it for shank extetions, but has anyone tried makeing a pipe out of spanish cedar? I have a bunch, and I am going to have a uddy of mine cut me some pieces to make a few cigar humidors.

If anyone is interested in a few boards, let me know and we do some swapping or I'll sell some. I have way more than what I need. I got a good deal on it, so I 'll pass the deal along.

A couple of questions:
Does it have good colour and/or grain variation?
Is it boards or blocks?
Can you estimate/guestimate it's hardness compared to briar or other hardwood?

Cedar is good burning wood - I don't think it is a "hardwood".
It's also a very aromatic wood, which I would think is a bad idea for a pipe.

Just my $0.02US

It has good grain and color. But I do believe it wouldn't make a good smoker. I plan on making a couple of humidors, and sell the rest of the boards. But man does my work area smell good when I go in there. Lol.
