7 x 10 would be fine for turning stems, but too small for turning stummels

My only thought on that lathe was regarding the plastic gears. But if you don't plan to cut threads, I suppose that wouldn't be a huge problem. Other than that, I know that lathe only by reputation.

I would buy the lathe IF:
I didn't have a lathe
It stayed at $100
OK, $200
I only had $200 and saving more was impossible
I did not have room for a larger lathe or were nomadic.
It will do for stems and rings and such. My clapped out Atlas 6" proved for a couple of years that any lathe is better than no lathe. This one might be better. You'll be able to put squat through the headstock, which limits your stem turning options somewhat, but you learn to live with it. A pipemaker friend who lives nearby has one of those, or one similar, drills stummels on a drill press and does his stem work with a 7" import and makes some darned nice pipes. Lathes of that type typically sell for $3-400 brand new with a warranty, such as it is, so there's no point in going much over $150 for a used one.
