iron acetate

Post by KurtHuhn »

I was making up some iron acetate here and I walked by just as it went all striped:

I just thought it was cool how all the layers separated out with clear boundary definitions.

*hushed whisper*
It's part of my experimentation with staining, contrasts, and finishing.

Man, yours is pretty! It looks almost like a nice beer. Mine looks like a jar of Balrog urine. How did you do that? :P

There's no smiley for ROFL is there. "Balrog urine" :D That's the funniest thing I've read in a week or more.

I don't think I did anything special. The only thing I might have done that would affect the mix is heat the jar to about 150F as I was dissolving the steel. That sped up the process, and allowed the steel to get dissolved before the water in the mix had a chance to rust it. It doesn't look anywhere NEAR as nice now. Now it looks like a sewage experiment reject with chunks rusty steel swimming around in murky brown liquid. It sure as hell does the job, though!
