briar mouthpieces

I'm experimenting with briar mouthpieces. Anyone have ideas on how to seal these ? Beeswax, other non-toxic substances ?

You don't really need to "seal" them, but they do tend to get a bit slimy over time. I've always just finished them with a spit-coat of shellac and carnauba.
