Pipe getting bitter

Post by dougk52 »

I have a pipe I've been using for 6 months or so but lately it get bitter while I'm using it. I tried using sweetener. Thoroughly cleaning out the smoke hole in the bowel wit ha drill. I also swabbed out the whole thing with alcohol. Still doing the same thing, any ideas?

What type of tobacco? How long do you let it rest between smokes? Have you tried the salt and alcohol treatment?

Try the salt and alcohol treatment first.

More risky than the above, but you could also try the activated charcoal treatment if the pipe doesn't have metal fittings.

EDIT: It took a bit of searching, but here's the original Greg Pease article: http://www.glpease.com/Articles/Spot.html
Lengthy, but an interesting read.

Hi,
At most the pipe is used 2 times a week and always 3 days in between.
Guess I'll have to try the alcohol/salt treatment. It's the only on of the herd that has had this problem.
