Assuming a 2.5" long shank on a liverpool (total length
of shank and bowl 4") what should the diameter of the
shank be?
Thanks

There is no hard and fast rule, and alot has to do with making things proportionate to each other. That said, you probably want to do about half an inch or less on a pipe that long.

These show a reasonable approximation of ratio: http://www.aspipes.org/shapes/canadfam.html

Thanks! Without thinking much I made one with a 5/8 shank
for a sterling silver band I had. I was also using walnut since I
think that looks good with a silver band. In any case, after
I finished I noticed that Liverpools usually have narrower
shanks for that size. I stuck a picture of it in the avatar, but
not much is visible -- but you can see the thicker shank!

I liked this one.
