Burning briar smells like popcorn

I've started a new pipe :D
It's an owl, and I've spent about 5 hours working on it so far. I'm not finished shaping it, and it will be a lot more detailed than the cat.
It's a bit smaller than the cat too :)

Critiques are welcome, but as with the cat, it's more owl than pipe really.

Aww, he's cute, but you didn't carve eyes?... yet, I hope. Paint or stain isn't the best way to illustrate separate details.

Why are you burning briar? It shouldn't burn when drilling or lighting a bowl.

Yeah, I'm going to carve a lot more detail, like eyes, wings, and claws :)

It caught fire a little bit when drilling. This is the second pipe I make, and the first one was prebored, so I guess I'm still making a lot of mistakes :p

Ah, and I know there are a lot of mistakes, and many many things that should have been better. And I'm not sure I'm all pleased with the bamboo.
But it was fun making, and I did rush it a bit at the end, I needed it finished till tomorrow. It's a gift for a friend :)

The owl is cute, but unfortunately the stem looks like it was added as an afterthought.

I LOVE OWLS!!! Aside from the stem which could use some work this is an awesome pipe!
