mallee root?

hi every1 im new here (1st post) :P umm i haven't actually made a pipe yet been smoking em for a few years and i thought a good place to start was asking about materials i cant locate any briar up for sale in western australia so i thought maybe mallee root its a native Australian plant and people here just normaly use the burls as firewood but they have a beautiful grain are very hard and dense so yeh i dunno has anyone every heard of someone using this material?

1st step is to google it and determine if it's toxic. If it isn't toxic, you're in luck! You can get plenty of free practice, even if it doesn't turn out to have any of the other qualities of briar that make it perfect for pipes.
