Dunhills worth the bucks?

What's the apeal of Dunhill pipes? Why are they so expensive? Do the use the best briar and have the best craftsmanship?

I think I'm better off with a high grade Savinelli and/or a Cavicchi.

I own a Dunhill and a Savinelli as well as a couple of pipes made by members of this forum. IMO the handmade pipes ar far superior to any of my other pipes including my high dollar Dunhill. I modified my Savinelli and it is a fine smoker now but even the pipes I have made smoke better.

Collectors like to date things, Dunhills have a year code.

Do they use the best briar

No. If they did, they wouldn't sandblast so often.

and have the best craftsmanship?

No more so than other quality pipe manufacturers of the same time periods.


A well made, properly engineered handmade will have more effort invested in the details that ensure a "high-grade" smoke than a production line pipe.
