Pipe socks

Post by Briarfox »

How do you guys ship your pipes? I'm looking for a source for pipe socks but can only find some nice leather ones for $10 a pop. I'm running out of my generic ones that I've built up over the years.

Tim West sells decent suede leather pipe gloves through his site ( www.jhlowe.com ) for like 5 bucks a pop. They come in a variety of colors.

Another idea would be to find a local leather worker. they could probably make you a big bulk order of sweet pouches for a reasonable price. Just depends on what you want.

I sew my own from vintage tweed. Its really not that difficult once you get the hang of it. I can make about 50 in an afternoon, just stick on some music and get sewing :)

The advantage of sewing your own is that you can tailor the size and shape to suit your pipes. I always make up two batches, small and large then select the appropriate sock for each pipe as they are shipped.

I wrap my pipes lovingly in laminate floor underlay foam, and shove em in a box. Maybe I'll get a logo for the underlay. :)

I usually just go to my "single sock" drawer and pull out a likely candidate. They come in many sizes and colors too! Even argyle.

Neil makes excellent bags. There's a reason his bags are filled with many of the finest pipes in the States and abroad. I second the vote for smokinholsters.com

My mom makes quilts, (rather nice ones i might add. GO MOM!) so I just gave her some material and had her make me some.
