Lovely pipe Fred. Really nice. I also really like the new blog layout. Looks great!

Pretty good Fred!
It has a very good balance concerning
shape, color and stem work.

Cheers,
eder.

Thanks for the props on the pipe & site guys. The website still needs a lot of tweaking before it goes live (you fellas are the first I've shared it with).

Chris, I've only been around pipes a few years, but the grain on that nosewarmer is the tightest I've ever seen.

OldnGrey (my father) would like to enter into the pipe trade. He's waiting admin approval for the board. He just has a stem to finish and he'll be good to go.

If his pipe will look anything like yours, I think we will all be fine with his entry.

Oh, and in case it didn't come through in that little quip, nice work on the pipe, Chris. It looks great!

Guess my post was missed. I want in on the PITH.............

I just got home and will be working on the pipe this weekend. I've got a couple ideas for one.

So far there have been some very nice pipes shown off here.

I decided to adjust the stems curve, but I think the bottom of the stem could be curved more, meaning to get rid of the flatish looking part. Let me know your thoughts...

Your pipe is already pretty cool!
But I agree with you about the stem.
I think that finer stems are more comfortable and for your
pipe, it also would fit very well.
Could you tell me what you do to get the Cumberland so shine like that?

Cheers,
eder.

Nice pipe, beautiful piece of wood but horrible thick stem. A couple hours work to thin the stem from button to ball, to about half it's present thickness and in my opinion you would have a winner. bob

thanks guys, I think I am going to thin the stem a bit.

the shine of the cumberland is just hand sand to 600, brown tripoli, white rouge, then carnauba wax.

I do hand sand to 1200, blue tripoli and carnauba wax on it...
So, I'm missing the white rouge.
The white rouge is also used for metal in general, like silver... do
you know if the conventional silver polishing that you can
buy in any supermarket can be used instead?

Cheers,
eder.

not sure if that can be used or not, never tried.

I'm no expert, and I know other people here know a lot more about polishing, but I first tried this method and have since stuck with it. The brown tripoli is like a 400-600 grit (I think) so I do not go over 600 with hand sanding. The white jewelers rouge is probably around 800-1000 grit. Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't see a need to ever use 600 grit paper, but maybe thats just me.

Am I too late to add my name to the list? I'm a total noob but I'd love to get involved and learn some - working on a few stubby pipes at the moment. and I live in England, is that a problem for posting a pipe?

On the 31st I'll put all the names in a hat (fitting!) and have my daughters draw them out so that impartiality is preserved. Once I post the list of the drawing order, then folks can contact each other for shipping arrangements.
