How many pipes did you make this year?

This past year has been my first full year working solely as a pipemaker. I started thinking how many pipes I have made and sold. As of right now, I'm at 93. I might try to squeeze out 1 or 2 more.

How many pipes did you make in '09?

Hello guys,

I don't use some usual pipemaking tools, like lathe and spoon bits. Basically I work with
knives, sandpaper and a Dremel. On top of that, I take about 10-15 days to finish a pipe.
So, I'm closing 2009 with only 27 pipes, and more 3 that passed away due to flaws in the briar.

These 3 I like the most:

I have been full time since the summer. Dont know an exact number as i dont keep records or number my pipes. There are 45 on the site and I made about 10 commisions, buggered up a few and finished about 5 seconds. Plus there were the first two chap pipes and a few gifts. So I would say approx 70 this year.

I've made somewhere on the order of about 100 since Christmas last year - give or take a few.

Working part time, but as much as possible, about 26 this year. I may get another one or two done this week that are already in the works.

Way too many things took away pipe making time this year

I'm hoping to make 50 or so in 2010.

This year, I really didn't do anything prior to the Chicago Show except get ready since it was my first show. Between Chicago and now I have made 60+ (I say + because I am currently working on 7, some will be finished this year). I did none from mid Aug to mid Sept because I always go to Colorado during that time. I usually do 10-12 per month while holding down a 40-50 hour job. I expect to settle down next year with about a hundred. I sell about 3 out of 5 which isn't too shabby since I have never taken the time to do a website, so far, just word of mouth. The interview at the Richmond Show <http://pipesmagazine.com/blog/pipe-manu ... tion-2009/> has helped tremendously and I have sold several out of my usual base. Hope to do a website soon. bob
