I have two cheap savinelli pipes (greek briar). One is a poker with a large bowl & the other is a small canadian. I really enjoy smoking the poker. It's produces great smoke with no added flavors. The little canadian has a wierd wood taste.
I thought briar didn't give off a wood taste? The canandian is fairly new. I've had it about a month and smoke it once or twice a day. Maybe I need to build up some cake in the bowl to have it smoke better?

That's just the breaking in. Slow down your puffing, and the woodsie smell should subside.
