I always thought I had sharp turning tools...over the years I have invested in a couple of different sharpening systems, but I always shied away from the crazy expensive stuff.
Turns out, I never ever knew what a sharp tool was!
I bit the bullet after a recent strong sales pitch by a woodcraft sales guy, and I bought a Tormek T-7 sharpening system. I spent a few hours digesting the 185+ page manual, and wishing I had paid more attention in math class, but then finally got started with some sharpening.
Oh my gosh...I never knew what it was like to turn with razors before. My skew chisel is a knife in liquid butter...my bowl gouges are lightsabers slicing through, well, anything. Even my scraper is...well...sharp!
I've never been more proud of my Swedish roots before. The $ spent wasn't only worth it, I feel like an idiot for having never spent that money sooner.
Love, what other Swedish secrets are you guys hiding up there? Any other incredible innovations I should know about?
