Cleaning of Pipes

Post by donbernard »

Hi there,
Perhaps there is a Chemist out there who can tell me if it is safe to use "Ketonatus 96%" (Denaturized Alchohol) to clean my pipes. After many years of smoking pipes, I now struggle with terrible tongue burn and I was wondering if the Ketonatus may have someting to do with it.
I would apreciate some help here.

Many thanks.

DonBernard.

The only "chemist" method of cleaning I have ever heard of is a retort system which uses something like rubbing alcohol. They are sold on ebay;

http://cgi.ebay.com/PIPE-CLEANING-RETOR ... 3efc6f8317

There description is;

"How it works: At the request of potential buyers a shortened version of instructions; The glass Retort is filled with bracer is attached to entire pipe with the top of bowl stuffed with cottton ball. Heat the supported attached Retort and the boiling liquid is forced into stem and bowl, when the heat is removed a vacuume results drawing the cleaner back into glass tube for inspection. The process can be repeated with the same or new bracer. Mastering the boil to produce a back and forth action takes practice but the results are a sanitized, sweet cleaned pipe"
