Good Rust remover?

Post by Tsunami »

O.K Guys and gal? I seem to remember one of them on here. Well anyay, I need a few suggestions on a good rust remover. I need to strip all the rust off my new/old toy. I can dip some parts but most will have to be done on the machine. So anyone have any good suggestions? You can see what I am doing here at this link.

The best remover I've ever used is walnut shell sandblasting media. Doesn't touch the paint that's left, won't pit the steel and iron.

Failing that, get a couple bottles of Naval Jelly and a bunch of wire brushes. More effort, just as effective.

Naval Jelly--Google it. Plenty of info available. I've used it for years.

I compared D-Rust-It and Evapo-Rust on a car restoration project (see http://xkeresto.wordpress.com/2008/10/1 ... t-removers ). I highly recommend either of those non-toxic chelating chemicals, essentially equal in effect, to remove rust over other chemicals such as hazardous naval jelly. You can use a wet paper towel to keep an area soaking on something you can't submerge.

I had a blog reader also suggest molasses! Apparently that's an old farmer's rust removal solution (takes longer).
