Tenon too tight..from kit.

Post by Bahnzo »

To get me started in making my own pipe, I've gone the traditional route of the PIMO book and a pre-drilled kit.

The problem is the tenon is much too tight and doesn't fit the mortise. So...what would be the best way to fix this? My first inclination is to sand down the tenon, but I'd like to hear from those more experienced before I do.

Thanks!

You can do either - sand the tenon down to fit by twisting it in sandpaper, or if the tenon has a nice finish on it, my preference is to roll up some sandpaper and twist it inside the mortise - it's surprising how fine a job this is. 220 grit paper and a couple of twists will usually do the job.

Thanks Sas....seemed best to just sand down the tenon, so I'll give that a go when I'm ready to get started.
