Stamping Woes
Stamping Woes
Here's my latest pipe (don't get too excited about it because I'm about to make you cringe with disgust.)
THOSE WITH WEAK STOMACHS BEWARE!
Wait for it.........
Wait for it.........
Was careless with stamping and didn't properly support the shank. Bummer! Have I mentioned that I hate stamping my pipes?

Oh my god.
Did you cry?
EDIT: My wife says the pipe looks like a toilet, so maybe you aren't out that much after all. There's always a silver lining with her.

Actually, it was a look of shock, then horror, then I laughed. What else can you do?Sasquatch wrote:Oh my god.

Re: Stamping Woes
I did that a couple months ago, actually. Worked a real tough long acorn sorta thing, all fancy shit, sandblasted it, and then dropped it and broke it in half.

Re: Stamping Woes
Yeah, it breaks your heart. No sense crying over spilt milk though, eh?
Re: Stamping Woes
What we used to call a "Character Building Exercise" !
Re: Stamping Woes
Check out all the stain in the brake. The wood was too soft there and would have broken whether you stamped it or not.
Still sucks though.

Agree. This was a case of the maker finding a flaw instead of the customer finding it.Skip wrote:Check out all the stain in the brake. The wood was too soft there and would have broken whether you stamped it or not.

Or to put it another and more lyrically philosophical way: it was always broken, Wayne just made it manifestly so.

Re: Stamping Woes
Wow, Wayne, that's terrible!!! Sorry to see such a waste...but I'll take it and fix it, promise I won't sell it!

Re: Stamping Woes
Wayne, maybe stamp the pipe before you do any shaping next time?
Just a thought.
Just a thought.

Re: Stamping Woes
What a pity, Wayne ...
You could fix it by inserting a piece of metal tubing (e.g. a Dunhill "inner tube") and glue it together. Not good for sale, but still a nice piece to smoke for yourself ...

You can't see it, but this pipe has been repaired with JB Weld:
The guy I sold it to has never even noticed the repair.

Re: Stamping Woes
That's the plan. I'm going to drill it out to fit a bit of SS tube and epoxy it up and touch up the stain. Then it stays with me. If I could repair it as nice as Rad's repair job I wouldn't feel bad about selling it though.Jos wrote:What a pity, Wayne ...

That's a great idea. I just have to stamp it really really deep.

Unfortunately, you associate with, or talk to, that ignoramus, eRmarkable..............what a putz he can be! Still you're funny! But..............look who's talking, I like Pohldancer and that Johnston feller!
Re: Stamping Woes
Yes, I got $800 for it. You don't have to have integrity in this business. You just have to be able to make an invisible repair.jogilli wrote:Rad

I bought the pipe. Is there a problem? I think it's magnificent.RadDavis wrote:Yes, I got $800 for it. You don't have to have integrity in this business. You just have to be able to make an invisible repair.jogilli wrote:Rad
