New 1955 Southbend 9A lathe

Post by nolo »

Just finished restoring my Southbend 9A.

I still need to get a chuck for holding briar. Any opinions on Oneway vs Trent Rudat's or waiting to see what Todd Johnson produces.

The nameplates were bought from a guy who posts on the practicalmachinist southbend forum, jkull.

Really nice guy too.

Working on a lathe like this must add one more level of fun to pipemaking! :) Love it!

You didn't mention this one in your choices. Made by Mark Yingling. I haven't seen what Todd will produce, but in my opinion this chuck is the benchmark.
