i'm trying to find "safe" way to square a shank for a bulldog pipe, most of the times o go 2-3mm thinner from what i want.I don't have any pre-molded stem to have a start with.

I was thinking to use my drill press and a cross vice as a router to make a stem, but I din't have the result that I was expecting.

Any suggestions?

You have to do it by hand and by eye.

I draw pencil lines on the sides, top and bottom (centered) and then sand to them. If you turn the stem 1/4 each time you sand it smooth, you can keep it square.

It ain't easy, but try not to get too caught up in making jigs for things like this. They're usually a waste of time.
