My first pipe in 2012
My first pipe in 2012
This was my 13th pipe. I decided to try something really different this go around and have always loved this shape. I think it's the only variation of an Oom Paul that I really like. Now that I've made this one I see why people like them. You can hardly tell it's is in your mouth. It rests so nice and doesn't put the weight out in front of you.
Anyway, take a look and see what you think. I'm always open to comments, questions, and concerns
Thanks for looking!
Brian.

Yeah, someone told me hovering pipes sell for more.Tyler wrote:I love how it hovers!

Wow. The whole thing is nice, but I'm particularly admiring the stem work on this one. Big improvements. It almost has an optical illusion thing going on. From the profile shots you'd never guess that the back is so wide (which also looks great.) Just a cool pipe all the way around.

Very nice. I am also not a gig fan of the oom paul, but this I like.

Very nice, Brian! I can see why you were so excited about it on the phone today.

That's gorgeous Brian! I have always loved the ramses shape and this one is superb. Your best to date.
So is this one worthy to bear the "Growley" stamp?

Re: My first pipe in 2012
Thanks all for the compliments. Unfortunately this one is not ready for the stamp for two reasons. 1. There are a some pits on the very front of the bowl I couldn't avoid, where the wood just wasn't what it should be. It would sell it as a GRR or Growley Reject as it were. 2. I don't have a stamp yetOcelot55 wrote:That's gorgeous Brian! I have always loved the ramses shape and this one is superb. Your best to date.

Ideally it should be blasted, but alas...no blaster either. I enjoyed the shape so much I've already contemplated making another.

From the back this looks like an Eskimo style pipe.

Sweet pipe man !
I'd call it a Ramses, but I think there should be more definition between the shank and bowl to call it that ?
I dont know for sure.
Very nice work either way

Re: My first pipe in 2012
I looked up Bo Nordhs Ramses, and I see where the difference is.
It is a curve that joins the shank/bowl junction, but the shank itself is completely flat.
In your pipe, the shank begins to rise as it approaches this junction.
Not to be nit-picky, its your pipe and your shape. But its why (in my eyes) the bowl and shank seem to be two seperate entities in Bo's version, while they try to visually become one piece on yours.
I like your pipe, but I think the aesthetics of Bo's does stand out more. (Granted, I am comparing you to The Masters work!)

Wow! My reaction upon seeing the first photo was to gasp. Great work!

Growley - Wow... I'm not even going to try to critique, as I really don't know my ass from a hole in the ground. Yet I will say this - I never thought I liked Oom Pauls, or variations of them - but I realllllly like your number 13!
It does hover effortlessly as well, as it should by looking at the center of gravity. Really nice!

Re: My first pipe in 2012
Thanks, upon receiving more information, this may not be an Oom Paul variation, it may be a Ramses? I think it will take me many years to get the hang of making pipes, and probably a life time to figure out how to name them
Re: My first pipe in 2012
This is a very good looking pipe. Definitely the best of yours to date.

That's an awesome pipe! Beautiful! Never cared much for full bends but now you got me thinking of making one now.

Re: My first pipe in 2012
Thanks all for the great compliments. I've successfully drilled another (three blocks later) and can't wait to see if the shaping turns out the same or better!
