P0512 - Prunus Mahaleb pipe.... :)

Post by ND Pipes »

This is a pipe made from Prunus Mahaleb (St.Lucie Cherry) - very hard wood, very nice grain, extremely good to smoke from... :) heheheheh
simple shape, no decorations, nothing... :)

The two pipes you posted are beautiful. Was the wood fairly easy to work with? The only thing that stops my eye on this one is the outward flare of the stummel near the stem and the stem itself. the two curves on the bowl are elegant and soft. When you get to the back of the pipe all of a sudden there are two very straight lines. If the stem had a little curve to it and the end of the shank matched the curves of the stummel it would have more of a flow to it. I'll shut my mouth now because I probably don't know what I'm talking about plus I'm drooling over the pipe anyway. :jawdrop:

..... hehehhe...
maybe i could get the stem thinner... but i wanted to have it straight for sure... maybe i am wrong here, don't really know... my feeling tells me, this is better - i don't think much about it :) heheheheh :)
was it easy to work with ... NO! ... that crazy wood is so hard i got crazy when i managed to get the shape... i was using grit 150 and barely get her to sand anything... :P the wood is so hard... :) after 150 she was smooth like a baby but... :)... i am really impressed with this wood... and it smokes like a charm... however, i don't have more and can't find any pieces on the web... practically not available... :/
and soooo goood!

Very pretty wood Daniel. I like this one a lot, very balanced and organic looking. Reminds me of an orchid flower.

than you Charl... :) to bad we can't find more of this wood :P hard to find... not used as a quality wood... it is a shrub that no one sees seriously... but it is a serious stuff - believe me... :)
