Belt Sanders - Help Needed

Post by brurobas »

Good morning,

Well, here i am again asking for your help.

I am looking to buy a small Belt Sander and i am inbetween these 2 models:

CLARKE BELT SANDER 1"x30"& DISC SANDER 5" 300w 230v

Technical Details

300 Watt, 230V motor, Supplied with an adjustable mitre gauge and fitted with medium grit abrasive belt & disc
1" x 30" sanding belt operates at 13.5 metres/sec. Tilts and locks at any angle 0 - 45º
5" dia. circular sanding disc runs at 2,800rpm, (LWH) 360x280x360mm
Workpiece table dimensions - belt 127x127mm, disc 89x178mm (tilts & locks from 0° to 45°)
45mm O/D dust extraction port, (LWH) 360x280x360mm

Fox 1" Belt & 5" Disc Sander

Technical Details

Motor 188w-230v
Belt Speed 960m/min
Disc Speed 2850rpm
Belt dimenstions 25 x 751mm
Disc Diameter 125mm

Could you guys please help me pick one? Which would be the best choice for pipe making?

I can see that the Clarke Belt Sander is more update the Fox's right? Also, i can see that while Fox as a 188watts motor, Clarke's has a 300watts. Will this make a difference?

Thank you in advance.

Regards

I'm not sure what to tell you about the two other than to say that 2800 RPM's is pretty fast. I went with the Grizzly model here: http://www.grizzly.com/products/H8192. It has a larger disk (8" which is nice) and a 1725 RPM motor.

Not sure if that helps.

Nothing wrong about these, I use a similar machine (though neither called "Clarke", nor "Fox", they're sold under other names over here) to do my rough shaping - the belt sander, that is.
The disc sander is good for squaring blocks. More power will be good, so I guess the Clarke
is preferable to the Fox.
The Grizzly machine looks definitely nicer, though ...
