Sea Shell Shank Extension

Has anybody ever used sea shell for a shank extension?

I found a pretty large hunk (about 1" thick) of a shell that I would like to try as long as it isn't going to kill anyone. I can imagine it would be kind of tricky to drill, but other than that it seems like it would work.

Whoa, I've never seen a shell that is that thick. Would you mind posting some pics? From a very quick search, it seems seashells are made of mostly calcium. I can't imagine calcium would hurt anyone,...but I'm no scientist.

I have tried to cut shell before and it cuts almost like stone, meaning not well. I think it could be pretty, if it's not too porous.

Sorry, that wasn't really that helpful.

It just cracks and chips really easily. I make small passes with really sharp tools.
