Could have done a few more things ...
* Taken a bit more off the top of the shank where it intersects the bowl
* Defined the shank/bowl intersection a little better on the bottom (@ 5 & 7 o'clock)
* Spent more time with the tripoli getting some more stain off to show off the grain better
* The stem.... well, it looks too long,

and the internals are lacking. Should open the airway and flare the slot.

so the preformed stems internals aren't opened up enough? Great to know thanks. After I put the shellac on the color doesn't change much if at all. should I be using tripoli before the shellac? Thanks

Oh rev, try using a scroll saw blade to open your airway- break off one end, then sand it down so it tapers to a point. Then you can slowly but surely work the slot wider, cutting bit by bit till you cut through the tapered section of drilling. Then you can easily widen from there.

Hi Rev,
Enjoyed meeting you in Vegas.

The only problem I see is that it's BLUE! Making a spherical bowl is tough, and your lines lose their curve a bit - not bad though. The stem shank transition and the bowl shank transition are tough, but you need to focus a bit on those. Keep at it!

thanks guys

Ernie, I only regret that I did not have big pipes to throw at you. :)

I am planning on seeing y'all in Chicago, maybe by then I will have some nicer pipes for you to critique

Very nice, Rev. I love that stain, and the amber stem goes perfectly. Very distinctive. Nice.
