This is what a Hobbit pipe SHOULD look like...

Post by meathod »

I got inspired by the The hobbit coming out soon.... And thought I would do a middle earth inspired pipe. Bilbo's pipe in the movies look allrriight... but this is my interpretation.

Stummel is black cherry burl with African blackwood bowl insert and shank ring. Stem is verawood (should turn more green with exposure to UV light) sycamore and macore. I'm trying out a new method of making stems, so that they can be both curved and have a thinner bit that what I usually make. The accent on the stummel is blue coral. And the inlays are turquoise and gold leaf.

A wizard would have totally smoked that.

And look! It's a normal button! ;)

You all have the causality wrong. A wizard wouldn't buy that pipe to smoke. A regular guy would buy that pipe, and thus become a wizard.

Meathod- I respect your craftsmanship, this pipe looks remarkable. Amazing execution.

However... I propose a challenge- who can make the most "hobbity" pipe?

I gladly accept my own challenge!

All that aside- awesome pipe man.
