What about felt wheels?

Hello everyone.
Been iching to make something but my garage is not heated and its been COLD!! Any way, I was in a Woodcraft shop. came across those fairly pricey felt buffing wheels. Are they worth the cost? What stage do they preform best? They seem kinda "firm" to be. Anyone have any expericence with them? Lotsa questions. Thanks
