Smoker's Haven Meetup (Mid-West Meetup)

Post by d.huber »

Hey guys!

We've ironed out some of the details of the March meet up. I think we're all going to have a great time!

The main event will take place on Saturday, March 16th. That day, we can all exhibit our pipes and sell them through Smoker's Haven. Sunday, March 17th will be the day for us to hang out in the shop and hopefully create a collaborative pipe to commemorate the event. We can donate the pipe to a worthy cause once it is complete. Any ideas? Since Smoker's Haven is closed on Sunday, we'll have the run of the store for hanging out and enjoying ourselves. Premal has kindly volunteered to provide catering for the day.

You are still welcome to come to the event and be a part of it even if you do not want to sell your pipes through Smokers' Haven, but due to state tax laws, any sale inside Smokers' Haven must be run through the shop. All pipemakers are invited for the event no matter where you are. Please call Premal if you would like to make arrangements to sell your pipes at the Saturday show. If you do not wish to offer your pipes for sale during the Saturday show, you are still very welcome to attend, and you will be included in the announcements, but it is very important that you not try to show and sell your pipes to customers that attend the show on Saturday. The Sunday meetup will be catered, but there can be no alcohol since we may be using machinery. A waiver will have to be signed by anyone that wishes to participate in making a pipe and use machinery.

The few hotels Premal has contacted so far are giving rates of about $60.00 a night. He will have a list prepared and post it here by January 15th.

Saturday evening, Premal will host dinner and drinks for all of the pipemakers. If you have a guest with you, please let Premal know, so he can make proper reservations.

If you would like to come for either Saturday or Sunday only, you are still most welcome for either day. Please let us know if you will be only attending for one day or both.

Premal will be advertising for the event, inviting cigar reps , a pipe tobacco rep, and getting the word out to the community at large.

Attending:

Premal Chheda
Bill Shalosky
David Huber
Thomas James
Nate King
Abe Herbaugh
Tim West
Michael Eady
Frank Wazny
Micah Redmond
Jason Cochey
Scott Klein
Chuck Sands

Please reply to this thread or contact Premal or me by January 15th to participate in the event. I will keep the list updated as people respond.

You can reach Premal at the shop during business hours at 614-299-2442 or pm him for his mobile number. If you have any questions, post here please, unless it pertains to selling pipes at the show then pm or call Premal.

Once the January 15th deadline has passed, Premal will begin advertising for the event, so it is critical that you get your name in asap if you'd like to participate. Again, every pipemaker is invited to this event, even if you are not within the Mid-West area.

This should be a great time for everyone and an excellent opportunity to get your name known in the community. If you can attend, I highly recommend doing so!

I would love to attend. I don't think I'll have any pipes worth selling at the show though. I would like to hang out and meet everyone and to bring some pipes that I've made and get some pointers and learn something. Would that be ok with everyone or should I stay home?

You are most welcome to come to the event. The purpose of the event is to meet up, and the show part on Saturday is just a bonus.

I notice that you have chosen a location which I cannot easily get to. So be it; but your fear of my mad skillz is noted.

Sounds like a dandy old time! You can count me in.

I think your dates might be mixed up. Do you mean Sat. March 16th and Sun. March 17th?

Buster, what is your real name or pipe brand?

Premal, I'd like to make it. If I can find a cheap enough flight I'll be there. If I could only bring two or three pipes, is that cool ?

I'll keep watching flights and see if a cheap one pops up. Will make up my mind for sure by the 15th.

What do you guys think about donating the proceeds from the pipe we'll be making to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society in honor of Bill Unger?

Hello Friends,

I am still working on a better deal from a couple of hotels, but you may be able to find a deal online. I have a choice between 2 cigar companies and pipe tobacco companies for the feature on Saturday. Please contact me if you are coming to the event by telephone as soon as possible. I need to find out if you are bringing a guest for Saturday Evening supper. 614-299-2442

Tim West will be bringing many Pipe Makers supplies on Saturday so if you need anything special please let him or I know. I will also have some material/tools available.

Sunday - I will have a few blocks prepared so we can work on them and possibly get a couple finished. We can discuss what we want to do with the pipes Sunday Afternoon.

Please let me know if you have any questions or if there is anything I can do to help.

Best Regards,
Premal Chheda
