I'm about to spring for a small motor, primarily to be used for buffing and potentially with a sanding disc. I have this in mind but wanted to ask for your guys' advice before I spend the money. Will this little guy work well with a few 6" buffing wheels? And, should I decide to go there at some point, will it work well with a sanding disc or french wheel for rough shaping?

There's also another Grizzly model for another $30 that ups the horsepower to 1/2. Is that worth the extra cost?

Honestly, watch Ebay for a few weeks if you are really cheap. You can buy decent motors for under $50 there but you will put a lot of effort into finding one. Otherwise, that one is fine. The TEFC part is the important thing to watch for.

1/2 1750 rpm is all you need to accomplish all of what you want to do. There are ALLOT of motors out there buying one new seems crazy. I equiped my entire shop with motors I either salvaged or bought from flea markets or yard sales. If thr spindle turns freely its good. So look around before you throw $$$$ at it.

Should I avoid motors lower than 1/2 HP?

Okay, found a 1/4 HP 1725 RPM TEFC motor for incredibly cheap. Is the low horsepower going to be a problem, especially with a potentially heavy sanding disc?
