Hi.

I´m a beginner pipemaker in Estonia.
I have got to the point of finishing my pipes. After searching this forum it´s still not clear to me what exactly is tripoli and white diamond. It may be that we, here in the east, have the same products with different names to them. So thats whats available here:

http://www.mtmc.co.uk/Metabo-623522000- ... 64872.aspx

http://www.mtmc.co.uk/Metabo-623520000- ... 64871.aspx

Can I use these?

I must allso say, that to get the pipemakeing supplyes here, has been a real treasurehunt. After months of looking for carnauba wax I finally got it from herrmans in Denmark. It´s virtually unknown here.

Thank You in advance

Cannot be certain, but those look like what we call tripoli and white diamond compound, yes.

Pipe making supplies are always a treasure hunt - you have to sniff around everywhere!

Check out these guys on Ebay Uk Heritage Abrasives item 290436908781, they have a great range of compounds and mops are quick and friendly.

Plus they use offcuts of scotchbrite as packing!

Hi.

Thanks for the reply.

Still-what do Tripoli and White dimond contain? Are they made for polishing wood only?

They are made for polishing metal, I believe. Tripoli is a compound made from a hard oil-based carrier and grit (400 or 800). White diamond is finer grit and seems to have wax in it as well, gives a smoother polish yet.

Automotive suppliers carry them as well.

That was my concern actually. Because these polishing compounds I was looking, were for metal allso (at least the wihte one for Inox)

Thank You for helping.
