Sadly, that big flaw you see at the end means that this one gets thrown into the "might finish someday when I need another shop pipe" bin...

The "I'll never finish this goddam stupid piece of shit but I can't bear to throw it out" pile? I have one of those.

Hey, if it weren't for that pile, I wouldn't have any pipes for myself! Those things are expensive, don'tcha know?

Nah... It's a cheap "Central Machinery" from Harbor Freight. The chuck is stock from Grizzly with two jaws removed. Gets the job done... :D

Thank you so much for posting that video. I've been coming in from the dang side and taking forever. Doh! Is that an oval skew or a square end scraper?

I'm brand new to pipe making (turned my first cherry practice blank last night) and have a quick question. What speed do you turn and drill on the lathe? I couldn't find an easy answer.

If I had to choose a single speed to do every operation in pipe making, it would be 1000 rpm.

I run my wood lathe at 1200 pretty often unless the piece is really unbalanced. I run the metal lathe at 1000 unless the piece is really unbalanced. I buff anywhere from500 to 1200 with 6"-7" wheels.

Speed is good, except when it's not.

Depending on the job, anywhere between 77-1400 rpm.

77 rpm is too low, even in metric. Everyone knows that.

Haha, I use that speed a lot for drilling. The lathe will go slower than that too which is handy for threading sometimes.

My lathe is too old for 77... haha thanks for the help!
