Yeti Pipe #23- The Scribe
The commission request was pretty simple- something like my 14th pipe, but instead make it a sitter.
This is definitely my best stem/ button work yet. I took a stab at a convex button, methinks it turned out decent enough. This is also the first time I've sweated so much over polishing the airway- I worked out a sanding technique, then did a final buff of the airway with a pipe cleaner and tripoli.
All in all I'm pretty happy with how this one turned out.
Cheers!

*High five* Nailed it.
Re: Yeti Pipe #23- The Scribe
Except... and this is a stylistic choice thing... the two accent rings that bracket the shank extension should be cumberland instead of black ebonite, IMO.
Re: Yeti Pipe #23- The Scribe
Wait... are they? I see some cumberland between the shank face and the shank extension, but it looks like there's black between that and the shank extension and black between the shank extension and the stem. Are my eyes playing tricks on me?

Ha! This is one of my subtler bits of work Accent rings as follow Cumberland stem->Black Ebonite->Lignum Vitae->Black Ebonite->Cumberland->shank.
I kept a thin sliver of Cumberland to tie together the stem with the shank and make sense of the accent rings in between. The black on either side of the bigger ring is something I like because it acts in a similar fashion as a matte around a painting. But yeah, the Cumberland is more visible in person upon close inspection

Love it. Some of the symmetry may be just a smidgen off. Not enough to be noticeable unless you really focus on it. Of course I've never seen a perfectly symmetrical pipe.

Ah hah! Well cool. Will you be at St. Louis? I'd like to have a close-up look at your stuff. The Smoking Yeti wrote:Ha! This is one of my subtler bits of work Accent rings as follow Cumberland stem->Black Ebonite->Lignum Vitae->Black Ebonite->Cumberland->shank.

I don't think I'll be making any pipe shows this year- I have a rather minimal budget atm. I don't need me no instagram, I just run a tumblr feed- usually a couple update shots every day.

Very good work ! I like the shape and the dark colour... the ring is a sun in an ocean of darkness. Really good.
